During the ancient times, bathing was not taken as a part of any physical fitness of physical hygiene thing. It was only in 500 BC that the heading Roman Empire made a law making it mandatory for all citizens to always take a bath and make it a necessity to attend to their hygiene. It was in a public place somewhere in Rome that people used marble for making bathtubs, and they even bathe there. A few years more later, still some citizens decide to built bath rooms and bathtubs that were sized like swimming pools and basically filled up an entire room.
In these days,
massage bathtubs were really a remarkable masterwork that shows great architecture and the epitome of luxury. The ceilings were decorated with the most colorful and finest mosaics; statues were seen here and there, and a unique facility for hot bath, too. But it the Greeks that introduced the much more smaller bathtubs as compared with the Romans. Unfortunately, the size rather too small and could not accommodate a bather. The Greeks were also the one who had used vessels for water that is used for rinsing; they even used advanced plumbing system. They believed that bathing with cold water was emasculate so they used cold water.
Bathtubs as they were already known today were introduced and brought to America in 1850's. During those times, the people used bathtubs made from wood, but were lined with metal also, and used their hand in pouring water. Then in 1895, a law that provided facilities for public bathing was imposed to all citizens. In 1900's, contemporary bathtubs were beginning to show in most houses in America. Most Americans had bathtubs in their kitchen during the first early decades of the 20th century. However, they were transported to the gardens when immigrants from Europe arrived in the country. The Europeans believed that bathtubs are an unnecessary luxury and should therefore be used instead for planting vegetables and flowers in the garden.
Presently, though, America is known as the country having the highest number of people using bathtubs that sometimes a single household has 3 or 4 tubs at home. The Japanese, on the other hand, made it a practice that the entire family should bathe outside the house where bathtubs were usually located. Public bathing was very common that time, and they usually used hot water for filling in the tubs.
The modern days that we have now saw the rising of several new forms of bathtubs that include facilities for both hot and cold water. However, in developing countries, since bathtubs consume more water, the presence of
shower enclosure was also felt. These countries believed that taking a bath or shower should not be a luxury but a matter of something important and part of physical cleanliness. It should be an important health factor that doctors even advice people to actually take two baths a day as something regular. If some
steam shower every week, that is fantastic! Some people even have bathing as part of a ritual and belief. However, nowadays, people are advised to limit the usage of bathtubs so that water consuming will be lessened; this is the reason only why people now commonly take shower instead.
